Good morning everyone. I'm sorry I've missed the last couple of rambles.I have been dog sick!... which also means I have to make up a lot of burpees. Future pain aside, I thought I could throw something up today. So, we have for you some videos. The first four are just parts of what we use in CrossFit, the 5th video being said discipline. I hope you all enjoy. For the time being, while I'm sick, I'm just going to throw up a video (and not my food) for you all to enjoy. Catch you guys later! ... and do burpees (because I can't)!

Odd stares
*sorry folks, late post here's the 9 AM ramble*
Hi guys and gals. Once again we're plugging away at the rambles. So let me just let you know I saw some interesting lifting yesterday. There was a bear of a man yesterday, but I found it odd that with his chicken legs he had to use straps to deadlift 165 lbs one at a time. These were not multiple reps either... I'm just saying. Moving on.
Actually I want to talk about the strangeness of the Globo-Gym. Now since I'm deployed I don't have the CrossFit box easily accessible... I'm still looking for it, if it exsists. So, I am forced to use what I have available, which means no bumper plates, no real pullup bars, and very few places to squat. I digress.
Besides the odd staring contest I mentioned earlier, there was something else to stare at... me. I'm not bumping up my own ego, but yesterday I wanted to spend some time working on my gymnastics skills: handstand holds and planche holds. So I was working on my hollow rock and trying to do my handstands. Aparently this is not something people routinely do. It was tough to actually find the space to do this in the sea of machines.
So, have any of you tried to bring CrossFit to the Globo-Gym and met with some blank stares? I think that soon we find more and more people that do or have heard of CrossFit. In that respect, are you spreading the good CrossFit gospel? Tell friends and family about it? I'm sure mine are sick of hearing it. So lets hear some more Globo-Gym stories. Move the weight, sprint hard... and do burpees.

Yesterday's Strength/Skills:
Bench Press 1RM 195 lbs
I'm actually really suprised I was able to move that. I think I could have pulled a PR of over 200 lbs, but I wanted to play it safe.
Handstand Hold/Planche Hold practice
Day 22 Burpee Challenge / 253 Burpees Total
These ar starting to suck

Elbows
Morning everyone! I hope you're ready for a real ramble... you kinda got hosed on yesterday's blog, so I'm going to have to make it up to you. So don't hold it against me... at least I got the blog out.
Well folks, I just wanted to talk about some gymnastic move that often gets missed. I speak of course of the Knee-to-Elbow. Take a look at the picture below...
You'll notice that the top is a more "Knee-to-Tricep" move... but that's not what this is called. The bottom, the true KTE, is what we're looking for. Notice that the hips are a lot higher and the entire body is more horizontal. It's going to take a very tight core and drive from the hips to reach this proper height. But, it's what we want to see.
So, maybe the next time we have KTE in a WOD and you're not reaching the "sweet spot" give yourself a NO REP. This is if we're not subbing or just not there yet. It is something to think about. Basically I want you just to remember what performing them actually means we need to do. So drive with those hips, be explosive... and do burpees.

Body Awareness
Hey everyone, glad you decided to take moments out of your day to read what some crazy CrossFitter has to say. It's not all bad... it has funny pictures.
So, yesterday's class at CrossFit St. Louis spent a good 20-30 minutes on some skill progression. 2 weeks ago it was Skin-The-Cat, and last night it was the Back Lever. I have to say, I'm really excited about people getting on the rings and moving around in ways we don't normally do.
The thing about many of the gymnastic moves, is it really gets your head wrapped around the idea of body awareness. When you do the Back Lever, you move from and inverted hang to, basically, completely horizontal. What many people may not realize, it what it feels to be completely horizontal. So even though you may think they're stiff as a board at a a complete 90 degree... but you may be at and angle, and kind of in a piked position.
That's why moves like this are so important. It will carry over to overall body awareness, and how you move. Even though it's a gymnastic movement, this will make you more aware of positioning for your Olympic movements, like the Clean and Jerk.
I know we want to go "balls-to-the-wall" and be out of breath for our WODs, but if you take time and practice skills... trust me, it will pay off. So lift heavy, get inverted... and do burpees.

Yesterday's WOD:
2 rounds
500 m row
5 muscle ups
15 Clean & Jerks 135 lbs
Time - 14:39
Went down to CrossFit 26 to hit up a WOD... this was a horrible WOD, what's worse, is I programmed it. It felt like Grace with other stuff in it.
Paleo Challenge Day 16/30
Found my new fav Post-WOD meal: Yellow Fin Tuna in Olive Oil, with Guacamole and a Mandarin Orange... yummy

Fake!!!
Good day to all, and what a wonderful Fall day we are having (It's good over here anyway). Alright, pleasantries aside, we have something to discuss. Today's society says that fake is just bad/weird: false eyelashes, spray on tan, fake nails... implants... the list goes on and on. But, there is something false that is good... that's right everyone... The False Grip!
The False Grip is a must-have for achieving the highly sought after Muscle-up. I'm not going to go over Muscle-up progression (that may come later), so let's start with a good understanding of the setup.
As you can see in the picture above, we don't need to hold onto the rings the same way we would the pullup bar. The weight is actually on the palm and the wrist, as opposed to the fingers. When you set this grip it is sometimes best to first lay your wrist on the rings and put your entire hand through the rings, see the picture below for my jumble of words to make sense.
Once we're here you just wrap your thumb back around, toward your arm, and the rest of your fingers will be on the other side (see the picture before this... yes, they're out of order). Then all that needs to take place is to grip the rings with you thumb and fingers, while keeping your palm and wrist laying on the rings... sounds simple right? Well, it is and it isn't. Just like trying something new (like the Hook Grip we talked about), it takes time to get used to it. This will cause a little discomfort in wrist area at first, maybe even a little skin-tearing will occur (get used to it!). So what kind of work can we do for our Flase Grip? Well simply use it when possible. Try these on for size:
So let give this a try. Stop faking it and get your Flase Grip on... does that make sense? More fun to come in tomorrow's post.

| Make sense now? |
- Practice holding the False Grip for as long as possible
- False Grip ring rows (getting you ready for...)
- False Grip pullups (this helps toward Muscle-ups also)
So let give this a try. Stop faking it and get your Flase Grip on... does that make sense? More fun to come in tomorrow's post.
